Get at least three written estimates from contractors. Expect to see variances in quoted prices and ask for a breakdown of the costs.
Get references from the contractor. Talking with past clients will reveal positive (and negative) experiences with the contractor. Visit the work done for past clients to personally understand a contractor's craftsmanship.
